Bongo Hospital has poor electrical wiring infrastructure and experiences frequent electrical fires. In 2012 the hospital’s operating theater burned down as a result of an electrical fire.

Sion and Chuck have been working hand in hand with local electrician Saidu and labourer Christopher throughout the entire process. Nurses working in the maternity ward were consulted on placement of light bulbs, fans, and outlets, creating a system tailor made for the end user. The key to the project’s success has been partnership with hospital staff. This has created a positive working environment, a great opportunity for cross-cultural exchange, and has resulted in a safe, reliable system that is appropriate for local conditions.

The work completed will ensure a safe environment for deliveries to take place, which is a major step in improving the infrastructure of Bongo Hospital!

The time, knowledge, hard work that Chuck and Sion contributed will have a huge benefit for thousands of people. They brought to rural northern Ghana 8 suitcases of high quality electrical material that cannot be sourced in country.

On behalf of the entire GMH Team, Thank you Chuck and Sion for your incredible help!

Our deepest thank you to the Rotary Club of Barrie and the Rotary Parry Sound for providing the financial support to make this project possible!
